National Nutrition Month: Put Your Best Fork Forward

This month’s theme for National Nutrition Month is “Put Your Best Fork Forward.” The best and most sustainable eating habits form early and are passed down from parent to child. Let’s pledge to make our kids’ futures a little healthier by teaching them the fundamentals of smart eating. We’ve compiled a few interesting nutrition facts about including dairy (100% grass-fed organic, of course!) in your child’s healthy diet:

A 2016 study published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition suggests that dairy consumption is inversely linked to childhood obesity. Pass the yogurt, please!

Snack time is a great opportunity to put your best fork forward. A study published in Pediatrics found that when children were offered a balanced, healthy snack of cheese and veggies, they ate 72% fewer calories compared with the group given potato chips. (Hint: apples and cheese make a great after-school snack!)

For children aged 2 to 12, an estimated 30% of daily calories come in the form of sweet and salty snacks. Snack smart and opt for nutrient dense foods like fruits, veggies, whole grains, and dairy.

What are your family’s go-to healthy snacks?
